Bouma Waterfalls

Located about 40 minutes away from Matei is a series of 3 waterfalls and natural swimming holes.  The first is located a mere 10 minutes away from the visitor's center, the last waterfall can be accessed by a 1.5 hour hike. You can do just the first waterfall or all three depending on  your experience level.  This is a great place to swim and have a secluded picnic lunch amongst some of Taveuni's most beautiful scenery.  It's also a great spot for bird watching.  You can reach Bouma Waterfalls by taxi or bus.  Entrance fee is $50 FJD

Lavena Coastal Walk

Located about a 30 min drive past Bouma is the Lavena Coastal Walk.  Bouma and Lavena can be combined into one day trip for those who are tight on time.  An hour trek past pristine white sand beaches and lush green jungle will lead you to one of Taveuni's most stunning waterfalls. Be sure to bring your swimsuit and a picnic lunch and for the brave ones, try some cliff jumping off the falls. Entrance fee is $36 FJD

Diving/Snorkeling

There are several great snorkeling beaches, one right in front of the house. Vacala beach and Prince Charles are also great for snorkeling. Kayaks are free for guests, paddle out to snorkel the nearby island reefs and take a picnic for Honeymoon island. Snorkeling off Honeymoon island is truly spectacular.  Snorkel gear is available for rent.

Taveuni Ocean Sports offers amazing snorkeling and dive tours at the world famous Rainbow Reef.  The Rainbow Reef is considered to be one of the best dive sites in the world and is often referred to as the "Soft Coral Capital of the World." Famous for its soft corals and amazing colors, but you may also see giant dogtooth tuna, trevallies, sharks, manta rays, turtles, and much more!  Taveuni Ocean Sports is a very well established outfit, they have many years of experience diving the reefs here and are extremely knowledgeable about ocean life. Round trip transportation from the house is included.

Fishing Charters

Taveuni is known for it's world class fishing due to the deep channels surrounding the island. It is common to catch yellowfin tuna, Wahoo, Spanish mackerel, Marlin, Mahi Mahi, and giant trevally all around the island.  Book half day or full day tours, snorkeling or surfing at Maqai can also be combined with the fishing charters.

Kayaking

We offer complimentary tandem kayaks! Set out from the beach directly in front of the house.  There are beautiful islands to explore just a 20 minute kayak paddle away. The snorkeling around the islands is amazing, take a picnic and relax at honeymoon island.  Or just cruise along the coastline and discover secluded white sand coves.  Snorkel equipment, life jackets and dry bags are also available.

Surfing

Sometimes you can find some good waves just down the street in front of Tramonto restaurant and also at Prince Charles Beach. These are usually smaller waves and the reef can be very shallow so best at high tide. Just a short boat ride away is Maqai. This spot is still relatively unknown but is gaining popularity among the surfing crowd as it can be one of the best breaks in Fiji. It can be surfed at any tide since the water is deep and Maqai offers a great right break which can be world class on the right days, best of all no crowds!

Waitavala Waterslides

Tucked away in a jungle just past the main town of Naqara is mother nature's waterpark. Swim in multiple fresh water pools and slide your way down the stream. The pool at the top is a natural infinity pool and offers a great view of the entire waterslide. Just don't slide down from the top pool! Ask the local kids to show you how it's done, they are pros. This is a free activity and just a short trip from the house, it's great to combine it with a trip to Naqara to get supplies or with a trip to the International dateline and Wairiki Catholic Church, both a short distance away.

International Dateline

The 180th degree of Longitude passes through a point marked by a signboard one km south of Waiyevo. There's a story that one early Taveuni trader overcame the objections of missionaries to his doing business on Sunday by claiming the International date line ran through his property. According to him, when it was Sunday at the front door, it was Monday around the back. An 1879 ordinance ended this by placing all of Fiji west of the Date line. In spite of this, it's still the most accessible place in the world crossed by the 180th meridian, and the perfect picture stop. Combine this trip with the natural waterslides or the Wairiki Catholic Church.

Birdwatching

If birdwatching is your thing, you have come to the right place! Taveuni is home to species of birds that you will not see anywhere else, including the rare Orange Dove.  One of the best spots for bird watching e is De Voeux Peak and Lake Tagimaucia.  You can also find the rare Tagimoucia flower which only blooms from November through February.  Take a leisurely hike or a driving tour up De Voeux Peak and see if you can spot the Orange Dove and our local parrots!
