Raintree Cottage

The Raintree Cottage is a complete 2 bedroom house with queen size beds, large covered deck, full kitchen, hot water, 24 hour power and wifi. This clean and comfortable home is located right in the heart of Matei just a minutes walk to markets, restaurants, fruit and veggie stall and even an organic fruit sorbet stand next door. Just across the street is an uncrowded beach great for swimming and snorkeling and we offer free kayaks to explore offshore islands. Free airport transport included. Guests will enjoy a complete two bedroom home with a large covered deck and ocean views. Inside there is a full kitchen and a beautiful river rock shower with hot water shower. You will have wifi access throughout the house and on the deck at all times and it is quite good for a remote island. Solar electricity is 24 hours a day but please no hairdryers or heat generating appliances since we rely on battery power and these will drain them quickly. There are fruit trees (papayas, coconut, mango, citrus, passion fruit, avocado and more), herbs and veggies all throughout the gardens which we encourage guests to use and we are very happy to give a garden tour! Just across the street you will find a nice uncrowded public beach for swimming and snorkeling and a couple shops, restaurants, veggie stall and organic fruit sorbet stand all just a minutes walk. Guests will have access to the entire 1 acre property. There is another rental house on the property as well so the yard is shared. Please enjoy all the fresh organic produce from the gardens and make use of the huge yard. We do have kayaks available free of charge for our guests, we just need advanced notice to prepare them and make sure the conditions are good to go out. We like to give our guests privacy however we do live just down the street so if there is anything at all you might need we are happy to help and can be right there. Matei is a beautiful little beach town with shops and a few restaurants, all within walking distance from the house. Amazing views, white sand beaches, waterfalls and some of the friendliest people on earth all make Taveuni an unforgettable experience. Walking is the best way to get around Matei. Shops and restaurants are located within just a few minutes of the house and taxis are also very affordable within Matei. To get into Naqara ( Taveunis Main town) or to Lavena Coastal Walk, Bouma Falls, Waitavala Natural Waterslides, The Blowhole... our friend Ajay does excellent tours and day trips to anywhere you would like to explore. His prices are great and he is very knowledgeable of the island and sure to give a memorable experience! We rely on solar power here which provides us with 24 hours of electricity. However we do ask our guests to please conserve power as we do have a limited capacity and once it goes too low it will shut off. Turning off all lights, fans, and other devices when not in use will prevent this from happening. We thank you for your help with this. You are probably already aware that Taveuni is a very rural and country place. Please keep in mind that Fiji does have mosquitos, geckos, frogs and many other critters. The house is fully screened and sealed so as long as the screen doors are closed, these critters will stay outside but its not uncommon to see some bugs around the property.
